My renowned Prof, Ayodele Awojobi did not say the following. However, following his standard withering attack on mediocrity and lack of rigour in seeking solutions, he would have perhaps alluded to the "fact" that most of my colleagues, who should at this point in time, be winding up their contributions to the development of Nigeria, HAVE THE ATTENTION SPAN OF A GNAT. Solutions to the many problems that beset Nigeria definitely demand going beyond the hot headlines. I am, like Prof "Dead - Easy" Awojobi, sorely disappointed at the lack of enlightened debate on such critical matters in which the generality of the public are incapable of participating. That's why we went to school for goodness sake, to handle complex issues. And guide the government of the day and inform the public. Wet your feet ladies and gentlemen. Do not be afraid of being contradicted or misunderstood. You owe society that much. It is a matter of duty.
I have recently rejoined the debate about the BUY MADE-IN-NIGERIA CAMPAIGN. Busybody that I am, I even spent half an hour discussing the matter with the originator of the current debate, the CENSOJ CEO, Mr Eze Onyekpere. A couple of others, too few considering the magnitude of the problem on hand, have weighed in also. Do we really acknowledge, recession or no recession, that there is fire on the mountain? I doubt it.
